Swiss Jazz School Bern, PreCollege
Founded in 1967, the Swiss Jazz School is the first jazz school in Europe. Today, it is primarily a training center for comprehensive musical education for young talents who have completed compulsory education.
Students choose between the intensive course aimed at university studies in jazz and contemporary music ( PreCollege , 2 semesters of 16 weeks each) or 3 semesters of 16 weeks each, two of which are before the Matura/before completing an apprenticeship) and a comprehensive part-time training program ( SemiPro , up to 6 semesters of 16 weeks each). The SJS focuses on improvisation, playing in a band (ensemble playing), and ear training.
Die Swiss Jazz School ist seit 2022 QuArte-zertifiziert. Das PreCollege der SJS hat zudem 2023 das Qualitätslabel Precollege Music CH des Verbands Musikschulen Schweiz (VMS) und der Konferenz Musikhochschulen Schweiz (KMHS) erhalten. Sie ist dem Verband Bernischer Musikschulen (VBMS), dem Verband Musikschulen Schweiz (VMS) und der Direktorenkonferenz der Schweizer Jazzschulen (DKSJ) angeschlossen.
